One Sick Puppy: A Cautionary Tale

Tuesday, May 03, 2005  Terry

Considering "purchasing" a dog from a pet store? Do take care to do your research first.
One Sick Puppy: A Cautionary Tale: "Buying the dog was almost too easy. Pet store employees asked her only one question%u2014had she previously owned a German Shepherd?" before they ran a credit check and had her sign a contract.
Read the rest of Gizmo's story on the HSUS web site, and read more about how to stop puppy mills by following the links after the stories. And contribute your own voice to the discussion, to the action. Do it here or at the HSUS or do it elsewhere. But do it. X-Post: Axis. Technorati Tags: , , , , , , , ,

We get more sick puppies with really bad genetic defects and behavior problems from puppy stores at the animal hospital then other sick dogs/puppies combined. One of my dreams is to rid the world of puppy mills...

At October 10, 2006 10:20 AM, Terry said This is a good question. Where's a good place to go to find a good breeder. How do we know one from another?

Any thoughts, people?

Many people have better, smarter, more excellent thoughts than I do.

My guess is that a lot of times you have to use your gut. How are the dogs treated? Does the breeder have references besides movie stars?

Visit a lot of online folks. Ask around. Give yourself permission to spend some time looking around. You want to be responsible, and sometimes responsibility means taking the time to do it right.

At October 31, 2007 5:00 PM, Terry said Update note... this post was never intended to be an attack on Wentz Canine, but a warning to beware of puppy mills. I don't know Wentz Canine from a hole in the wall, and though I link a story about Wentz, if you have a problem with a business, I would prefer you take it there, to that business, rather than anonymously spam my site.

I still remind you all to beware of unscrupulous businesses and puppy mills, but if you end up in a situation where you need to take some recourse, do something effective, sign your name, and make a difference.     Add a Comment
