Sadie Says / Creature beacon reunites lost pets and owners
New Scientist Breaking News - Creature beacon reunites lost pets and owners: "The collar beacon, developed by GlobalPetFinder in New York, US, determines an animal's position using Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite signals, and reports these back to an animal's owner via a cellular phone network. The device is about the size of a large wristwatch and weighs 0.15 kilograms. It clips discreetly onto a pet's collar."

What's this? Will He He Throws the Tennis Ball throw it for you? Will it be something to bring to him and have him pull or tug or otherwise play with you? Can it move? Will it make noise? Then what good is it? You are not sure why it would be useful to have such a device. You do not get lost. You just don't always remember that when running off to find a new friend (look! a person! a dog! a happy wonderful person getting out of a car! a new friend!) that you could go back the same way you came from and be home again. You will get home eventually. Wherever home is. Wherever there is food and a tennis ball. And dogs and people. What's the big deal? Too big a deal is made of this "getting home." A useless gadget to be sure. Global Pet Finder

The useless banter used to explain this as a useless gadget clearly demonstrates someone who either doesn't have a dog or has no clue of the potential to loose your dog.
At the beginning of June my dog was stolen and missing for over 2 weeks. She had a microchip and was ultimately returned, but if she had a device like this I could have found her right away instead of searching for 2 weeks, in vain because the whole time she was with her "abductor" and not out in public waiting to be found.”

I do, of course, because she is just the sort of dog who runs madly for miles, just barely remembering where home is or that she's far from it.
I'm very glad to hear that your dog was eventually returned to you, and I am sorry for the confusion. I will try to be more clear in the future.”
