You Are Sam ∴ Are You the World's Ugliest Dog?
Looks like I had a whole bunch of folks here yesterday looking for Sam, the Worlds Ugliest Dog. Sorry if I disappointed any of those people by not posting photos of Sam, but I couldn't do it, and I still won't do it. Why? Because Sam frankly looks as if he's in pain... as if this world has not had much to offer him. I'm extremely glad he's found a home and people who love him, but I'm not going to post pictures of him here, especially given that pictures of him can easily be found elsewhere. Instead I will post a short piece in Sam's voice, in the style of my book, You Are a Dog. Enjoy.
You have been expecting this. All the attention. All the praise and the biscuits and the photos. You have been expecting this all your life. You have been waiting patiently. It is finally there for them to see. How gorgeous you are. How you have blossomed. How well you “sit” and “lay down.” How you drink your water and take your pills. You are remarkable for all that you are. All that you will be. And now? Now you are tired. You are exhausted, really. Please close the door on the way out. You are so tired. You will just nap now. A nice nap. A nice, long nap. That's all you need. As with most dogs of your status and abilities, you need your beauty sleep.I hope what I've written above does Sam justice. And I hope he is healthy and is well cared for (it looks to me as if he is). And that he finds peace... or kibble, as he desires. Blessings.

- If you'd rather help the shelter where I live (and where I volunteer), then visit Spokanimal CARE and get busy.
- Or, of course, contact your local shelter and help out in some way. Give money. Give a physical presence. Walk a dog. Clean a kennel. Teach a nervous pooch to sit. Trust me. It feels good
