Marley & Me : Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog
by John Grogan
American Kennel Club - Labrador Retriever Leads the Pack According to AKC's 2005 Registration Statistics: For the 16th consecutive year, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular purebred dog in America, according to AKC® registration figures.... The Golden Retriever held onto the number two spot and the Yorkshire Terrier made significant gains — beating the German Shepherd Dog and Beagle — to become the third most popular dog in the country.I'll take one of each. How about you? What sort of dog do you love? A mutt? A Shihtszi-Poo? And why do you love them? One should probably stop here and mention that the number of registered AKC dogs does not even scratch the finish on the surface of the number of actual dogs in the U.S. Conservative figures estimate at least 60,000,000 dogs in the U.S., and my guess is that the real most popular breed is random. A mutt. Heinz 57. Whatever you want to call 'em. They're mixed and they're everywhere. And they do not care a whit for popularity. They just want that last bit of hot dog, okay? You aren't going to just toss that in the trash, are you?
