dogma: Who loves you, baby? (part two): When fighting-bred pit bulls are puppies, the pros bring them along slowly, in short fights against weaker opponents. They give the puppies all kinds of praise and affection for fighting, and the dogs learn that following their instincts pleases their masters. They're never hurt, never taxed, always win. Fighting is fun!Makes me sick, and makes me want to shout, but I'm glad I know it, and I'm glad there's someone telling other people about it so that one day we can get it to stop. I hope. Don't you hope? Tell me that you do. I need more hope.Thirty Years with Fighting Dogs (Vintage Dog Books Breed Classic - American Pit Bull Terrier)
by George Armitage
The puppies mature, and finally it comes time for a true test, says Sakach. They're put into a fight that can last for hours. They'll fight to exhaustion, to near death. And at the end of that, the person who taught them to fight, who “loved” them and accepted their love in return, will bring in a fresh opponent. If the exhausted, mutilated dog shows he's willing to fight again, he passes the test. If not, Sakach says, he's usually shot and disposed of.
In the dogfighter's motto, “Breed the best and bury the rest.”
